Stanford Chamber Chorale The Wisdom of the Moon

The 24-voice Stanford Chamber Chorale, directed by Stephen M. Sano, opens its 2017-18 season with a richly varied recital of a cappella literature from the American and European choral traditions performed in the stunning acoustic of Stanford Memorial Church. Featured will be a triptych of evocative settings about the moon by Winges, Chilcott, and LaBarr, juxtaposed with paired settings of the "Ubi caritas" and "Cantate Domino" texts by Duruflé, Monteverdi, Jackson, Rutter, Elberdin, and others. Also included are gems the ensemble is preparing for our Pacific Northwest tour later in the academic year, including Harris’s exquisite double-choir motet "Faire is the heaven" and works from the American folk and African American spiritual traditions.
