Metamorphosis

West County Winds

West County Winds Metamorphosis

For its first concert of the New Year, the West County Winds, Geoffrey Gallegos, Music Director and Conductor present Metamorphosis. A program of works originally composed (in most cases) for orchestra, but also brilliantly transcribed for Symphonic Wind Ensemble including music by Shostakovich, Riegger and Hindemith. All of the composers, save one, are usually associated with music for the symphony orchestra.

The exception is Arthur Frackenpohl, whose rarely heard Concerto for Bassoon and Band will feature Friedrich Edelmann as soloist. Mr. Edelmann was Principal Bassoon of the Munich Philharmonic for 27 years and played with some of the 20th century’s most illustrious conductors: Celebdidache, Bernstein, Kleiber, Solti, Mehta, Masur and Ozawa to name a few.
