Founded in 2013, the Cambrian Symphony is comprised of community-minded individuals that act not only as musicians on the stage, but as students, doctors, lawyers, engineers, designers, research scientists and educators throughout the Bay Area. Their joy of making and sharing music is infectious and is the foundation for their contribution to the arts. Under the leadership of conductor Scott Krijnen, the orchestra mentors approximately 40 students from local public schools including but not limited to Title 1 schools Castillero Middle and Lincoln High Schools, providing students countless performance opportunities not available to them through their school or traditional student ensembles. Through our unique integration of volunteer professionals and students, Cambrian Symphony strives to share our joy of creating music not only with our audiences but with the future musicians in our community. As part of our mission to make music accessible to all, we offer our concerts free to the public and charge no tuition to our student musicians. Affiliated with the San Jose Dance Theatre, the Cambrian Symphony is in its fourth year of collaboration with their production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, receiving rave reviews, and is now embarking on its third full season of concerts. Recent highlights include the world premiere of Luis Andrei Cobo's Piano Concerto featuring pianist Tamami Honmo on June 16, 2017, which received KDFC's Best of the Bay 2016-17 award for Best New Music Performance and Best Discovery. In 2016, Cambrian Symphony’s conductor, Scott Krijnen, was the recipient of the CSN Bay Area All-Star Teacher Award for his remarkable dedication to his students and significant presence within the community.
