Jonathan Dimmock, organist, plays the "Nativity Suite," of Olivier Messiaen, in its entirety on the superb Létourneau organ of Christ the Light in Oakland. The acoustics of this building, so crucial to the correct communication of this major work, are ideally suited to the music of Messiaen, sounding much like the French cathedrals and basilicas for which the music was written. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. and lasts approximately one hour. There is a freewill donation for this event. Dimmock has recently recorded this music, on the same organ, which can be heard in streaming or on his Bandcamp site (in lossless, high definition or in traditional CD format). Dimmock had the good fortune of studying with Messiaen who greatly praised his intuitive understanding of Messiaen's music. Extensive program notes help the audience enter into the mystical experience of this event.
