Explorers Series: The String Quartet in America

Presented by Music@Menlo

This program celebrates the influence of American culture on the string quartet canon. Often compared to Mozart, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, a Viennese-Jewish wunderkind who immigrated to America in the 1930’s, went on to become one of the star composers of Hollywood, counting among his films The Adventures of Robin Hood. But in America he continued his prolific production of stunning classical works, including his third string quartet which is included in this final Explorers Series concert. Paired with Antonín Dvořák’s adored American quartet, composed in Spillville, Iowa, this concert pays heartfelt tribute to the inspiration found on our shores. ***This online concert is available to view, on-demand, for one week. It includes a short musical discussion with the artists to deepen your listening experience. You will receive an e-mail at least 48 hours prior to each concert, with a link to the performance page and instructions on how to watch.*** For Explorers Series events: You will receive an e-mail at least 48 hours prior to each concert, with a link to the performance page and instructions on how to watch.
