I want this Instead

Presented by Tim Rubel Human Shakes

June 25-26 8pm, June 27 7pm; in-person and virtual

Tim Rubel Human Shakes' 7th San Francisco home season will be the long-awaited premiere of "I want this Instead." This zany, playful work of contemporary dance-theater explores themes of desire, queerness, vulnerability, and personal authenticity. In-person and virtual tickets will be available.

This new work has been in the making for a year and a half. Its premiere has been delayed twice due to the pandemic. As the world we used to live in begins to re-emerge, the themes of our work have taken on a new meaning. They speak to what many of us are desiring most: The desire for closeness and physical contact. The vulnerability to let go and be caught by someone else. The authenticity of our skin, bones, sweat, voices, and real-time engagement. The things we haven't been able to do over the last year are the foundations for this dance. Narratives that indulge in absurdity, queerness, freedom, and frivolity form its structure. I hope you'll join us.

*This production contains nudity, adult language...and fierce dancing. Now you know.*

Vaccine Requirement: Those attending the show in-person MUST be fully vaccinated for Covid-19, and will be required to show their official vaccine card upon entry. All dancers, crew members, artistic staff, and front of house staff at Dance Mission Theater will be fully vaccinated as well. Dancers will remain at a safe distance from the audience while performing and will not be wearing masks. At this time, audience members will be required to wear masks while they are attending the performance. We will continue to monitor health authority updates and will let all in-person ticket holders know if any restrictions change.
