The Fauré Quartett perform Nov. 1 and Nov. 5 for Music at Kohl Mansion

Music at Kohl Mansion joins the ranks of intrepid presenters finding new ways to share great music in the face of limited in-person opportunities. The touted chamber-music series recently announced the starting lineup for the first three events of its 38th season — to be presented online, of course.

Music at Kohl’s resident musicologist Kai Christiansen will host the Sunday evening concerts at 7 p.m. (PST), and will provide context for the music and a visit with the evening’s artists. The concerts are offered at $20 per household per event. Each show will air twice — on a Sunday and again the following Thursday — which gives audiences a chance to pick the most convenient date.

The first three concerts of the season are listed below. Click on the links for more details about the artists and programs.

The Fauré Quartett initiate the season with, unsurprisingly, works by Gabriel Fauré: Piano Quartet No. 1 in C Minor and the songs “Notre amour” (Our love) and “Les berceaux” (The cradles). Sunday, Nov. 1 and Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. PST.

Cellist Amit Peled with Pianist Noreen Polera are up next, and continue last season’s Beethoven 250 Celebration with Cello Sonata No. 3 in A Major, Op. 69 and Cello Sonata No. 4 in C Major, Op. 102. Sunday, Nov. 15 and Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. PST.

The Alexander String Quartet performs Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 13 in B-flat Major, Op. 130, also a continuation of the Beethoven 250 Celebration. Sunday, Jan. 24 and Thursday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. PST.

The rest of the artist roster is still in play for 2021, but planned performance dates include Feb. 14, Feb 28, March 14, April 11, and May 9. Check the website for more details as the season unfolds.
