Middle Eastern, Turkish and Eastern European MusicCommunity Music Center
With branches in the Mission and Richmond Districts of San Francisco and programs throughout the city, Community Music Center (CMC) is the Bay Area’s oldest community arts organization and San Francisco's largest provider of low-cost, high quality music education. During the 2008-09 school year, 2,345 students of all ages, ethnicities and income levels enrolled in CMC programs and over 17,000 people enjoyed musical performances at no or low cost.
Learn to play Asian, Middle Eastern and Eastern European music, including Klezmer and Balkan styles. Music scale systems and maqams will be studied in the context of selected tunes. Improvisations (taqsims/preludes/doinas) will be attempted according to traditional practices. There will be various performance opportunities throughout the year.
