Mia Nardi-Huffman

Violinist Mia Nardi-Huffman is an active performer in the Bay Area music scene, where she is a member of several chamber ensembles and maintains an active private studio. As a violinist in the Astraeus String Quartet, she performs some of her favorite works in the classical repertoire through intimate house concerts and performances in unusual spaces. An alumna of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Mia received her MM in Music Performance in 2016 and her BM in Music Performance in 2014, studying under the tutelage of Bettina Mussumeli.
As a teacher, Mia has a decade of experience working with students in a wide range of settings. She has been an assistant violin instructor at the Chamber Music Institute at the University of Maine, a Chamber Music coach at the Kipp-Bay Academy in San Francisco, and currently maintains a private studio in Oakland, California.
When she isn’t playing or teaching the violin, you can find Mia testing vegan baking recipes, or taking photos of her cat Stella Bean!

Teaching Method:

I use a combination of books, tailored to the needs of each student. For my youngest students, I use the Adventures in Violinland method books, which were written by my former teacher, the renowned pedagogue Shirley Givens. For older children and adult beginners, we start with repertoire from the Suzuki books, as well as supplemental music theory, scales, and exercises. Music should be fun, challenging, and rewarding, so I aim to bring that to each of my students!
