Summer Music Academy
For intermediate to advanced students, this course is an opportunity for musicians to experience a practical approach to the fundamentals of orchestration, notation and musical analysis. Students interact in an open atmosphere of exploration to create new musical works. Acceptance into the course is based on the submission of one original composition by the student.

My profession and love is early music. I received a very well-rounded education as a singer, conductor, instrumentalist, arranger and teacher, and I make my living using all of these skills.
My youngest students have been in preschool and kindergarten; my oldest (currently) is in her 80s. Some of my students are pre-professionals, some adult beginners. My methodology is a cross-pollenated one, and I design the curriculum to complement the skills of my individual students.
San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Preparatory Division Private Lessons
Students enrolled in private lessons have the opportunity to perform in regularly scheduled recitals held in the Recital and Concert Halls. Preparatory Division students participate in master classes with distinguished visiting artists and with the Conservatory's Collegiate Division faculty. Off-campus and showcase performances are also arranged for students throughout the year. Certificate programs available.
San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Preparatory Division Composition Seminar
Open to all students enrolled in the musicianship curriculum with permission of the department chair. Composition assignments are performed and discussed in class. Formal performances are presented in recital.
San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Preparatory Division Theory & Ear Training (Level V)
Level V: Sight singing with modes and remote modulation in 20th century idioms, polyrhythms, quintuplets, meters with unequal beats, tempo modulation, leading tone seventh chords, augmented sixth chords, Neapolitan chords, all intervals in a non-tonal context, fugue.
San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Preparatory Division Theory & Ear Training (Level III, Level IV)
Level III: Sight singing material to include seventh chords, rhythmic patterns of two against three, inversions of triads and dominant seventh chords, non-tonal use of thirds, theme & variations and rondo form. Level IV: Sight singing with secondary dominants and chromatic non-harmonic tones, small subdivisions of the beat, changing meters, inversions of dominant 7th chords, secondary dominants, modulation, non-tonal use of sixths, sonata and concerto form.
