Summer camp

A Joyful Sound

A Joyful Sound! is our summer mixed chorus, open to all who love to sing. Families are encouraged to participate with their children. Singers receive training in voice, musicianship, and performance from master conductor, Jan Pedersen Schiff. There are no audition requirements. This is a 10 week session. We understand you may miss a few rehearsals due to summer travel plans. A rehearsal CD of your voice part is provided to assist you with learning the music outside of the rehearsal time. There is a supervised play area for the children to retire to at 8:00 p.m.

Musical You

Do you love to sing? Do you watch Glee and wish you could join in? Then join us for our camp and a fantastic musical experience! Our summer camp offers yourth a chance to discover their talent and love of music and performance. The camp will feature both solo and group vocal instruction, Dance, lessons in stage presence, singing of both musical theatre and choral music, and much more! The camp will culminate with a Final Showcase performance on our last day. Please join us for fun, musical games, performance, and music making!

San Francisco Early Music Society Music Discovery Workshop

The Music Discovery Workshop, located in Berkeley at the Crowden Center for Music in the Community, is a rich experience for young people between the ages of seven and fifteen. Our day camp magically transports students to the 15th century by blending music and social history while bringing life and drama to the study of music. Instruction includes recorder, harpsichord, strings, chamber music, musicianship, crafts, costume making, outdoor games, and more.

San Francisco Conservatory of Music Summer Music West: Musicianship

Instrumental experience and ability to read music required. No previous music theory or ear-training experience required. Also appropriate for current Preparatory Division musicianship students.
Interview May be Required
Students will improve their general musicianship skills and lay solid groundwork for exploring music in other programs. Three class levels are offered, grouped by age and experience.

San Francisco Conservatory of Music Summer Music West: String & Piano Academy

At least three years private instruction recommended. No previous ensemble experience required.

Audition Required

Young string players and pianists grow immensely in this course, which features intensive chamber ensemble instruction and a final concert including all students. Ensembles vary according to instrumentation and ability, though most pianists are assigned to a piano duo. Piano enrollment is limited to 12 students.

San Francisco Conservatory of Music Summer Music West: Gilbert and Sullivan Scenes

The perfect training program for the young stage performer–now in its eleventh year! A collaboration with Lamplighters Music Theatre.

Audition Required, Accompanist Provided
Explore the Topsy-Turvy world of rollicking pirates, damsels in distress and modern major generals! Lamplighters Music Theatre artistic staff directs daily classes in singing, acting and stage movement. Students present a fully-staged and costumed performance of Gilbert & Sullivan scenes.

Crowden Center for Music in the Community Summer Suzuki Workshop

Renowned guest faculty from Suzuki programs throughout the nation come together at Crowden to share their expertise with young musicians in this intensive and fun immersion experience. Daily activities include master classes, repertoire, technique, and enrichment classes. Intended for students who are already studying violin, viola, or cello with a Suzuki teacher; all students must be supervised by a parent, guardian, or adult childcare provider throughout the day.
