Presented by San Francisco Symphony

The San Francisco Symphony welcomes the brilliant violinist—and now conductor—Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider in his conducting debut with the Orchestra. In an exquisitely blended approach to the classical concerto, Szeps-Znaider stands as soloist and conductor in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 2, and then leads the SF Symphony in two luscious scores from the end of the nineteenth century. Death and Transfiguration, by the musical alchemist Richard Strauss, conjures the internal journey of an artist on his deathbed, while the captivating and sweetly nostalgic Enigma Variations, by Sir Edward Elgar, presents a series of affectionate portraits of close friends.
