Just as one kind of heat abates, January is going to bring another kind of heat. SF Performances has announced that jazz composer/ bandleader/ pianist Edward Simon will curate the presenter’s annual Salon Series, which this year will be sponsored by radio station KDFC. This season, the series is presented in the Education Studio (4th floor) of the War Memorial Veteran’s Building.

Simon begins by showcasing his own breadth of styles in a January 15, 2020, program of piano music by the Spanish composer Federico Mompou. February 5 sees a piano trio comprised of Simon, violinist Hrabba Atladottir, and cellist Edward Gaenslen playing Astor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires in a trio arrangement by José Bragato. Simon is solo again on Feb. 26 for a program of jazz and then, on April 15, he partners with flutist Marcos Granados on Simon’s Venezuelan Suite and several other pieces.

KDFC Classical Radio hosts will be on hand for each of the one-hour concerts.
