Hot on the heels of the disappointing announcement suspending the rest of the season’s remaining performances — including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Jewels, and Romeo & Juliet — San Francisco Ballet just released news that their much-anticipated November tour to the National Ballet of Canada (NBC) has been canceled by the NBC out of concern for the long-term impacts of COVID-19.

According to the NBC press release, “These unprecedented circumstances have required us to make changes to the 2020 – 2021 season including the postponement of the company’s appearance at the Royal Opera House in London, the world premiere of Wayne McGregor’s MADDADDAM, the North American premiere of Cathy Marston’s Victoria, and the guest appearance by San Francisco Ballet.”

The SF Ballet’s northern tour was to have been the company’s premiere performances in Canada under the direction of Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer Helgi Tomasson and the opening of The National Ballet of Canada’s 2020 – 2021 season. The planned program included Justin Peck’s Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes, Chistopher Wheeldon’s Bound To, and Alexei Ratmansky’s The Seasons.
