Esa-Pekka Salonen Joins the “At Home” Radio Series

Peter Feher on April 28, 2020

In a reversal of sorts, Esa-Pekka Salonen is taking over for Gustavo Dudamel.

This week, Salonen joins the At Home With … radio series on Los Angeles’s KUSC and San Francisco’s KDFC. The program premiered last month with LA Phil Music and Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel. Now, as concert cancellations go from temporary to indefinite, KUSC, KDFC, and the LA Phil are expanding the scope of the series. Different guest artists will feature each week, offering commentary and musical selections.

Following Dudamel, Salonen is the fitting, all-California choice for KUSC and KDFC; he’s the San Francisco Symphony’s music director designate and the LA Phil’s conductor laureate. He joins At Home With … this week only, Tuesday through Friday. Tune in to KUSC and KDFC on air or online for the hour-long program, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. PDT.

And both stations continue their partnerships with the state’s two big orchestras: KUSC broadcasts LA Phil concerts from this season, Sundays at 7 p.m. PDT, and KDFC shares highlights from the San Francisco Symphony, every Tuesday at 8 p.m. PDT.
