Stellar string quartet of rising stars

Sofia Matthews and Jun Yong Liu, violin; Anna Renton, viola; Isabelle Nichols, cello

These astonishingly accomplished musicians are 17-year-old high school students (Sofia Matthews and Isabelle Nichols attend Berkeley High; Jun Yong Liu attends Oakland Tech, and Anna Renton attends Valley View Charter Prep), who formed The Meráki Quartet in the fall of 2016 through the Crowden Music Center's Youth Chamber Music Program. (Meráki means "soulfully artistic" in Greek.) The group has performed in both the Old First and Fifth Street Farms concert series in the Bay Area, as well as with the Alexander String Quartet at the Rex Salon and in Herbst Theater.
Awarded the bronze medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and second place at the Yehudi Menuhin Chamber Music Seminar, they have also appeared on NPR's From the Top. You can see them here on youtube.
Rescheduled from April due to COVID-19, this concert is part of our Third Sunday Concert Series, curated by Flautist Jane Lenoir.
