[Opera Aficionado: Interactive Lecture Series] ‘Tis the Season at the Opera: Exploring Operas with a Yuletide Theme

Presented by San Francisco Opera

Opera Aficionado is an exciting, new suite of programs designed for patrons who are passionate about opera. Aficionado provides an opportunity to learn more, dive deeper, and get an inside look at the world of opera. As part of Opera Aficionado, our Interactive Lectures Series gives opera-goers around the world a front-row seat to scholarly talks, allowing attendees to dialogue with fellow opera lovers, experts, and special guests. Each month will be focused on a concept or theme relevant to all of us. Speaker: Dramaturg Emeritus Kip Cranna The Christmas story is celebrated in countless musical works, but mostly for the concert stage, like Handel’s beloved Messiah. But what about opera? Far from saying “Bah, humbug!," composers aplenty have found the Christmas Season a perfect backdrop for operatic storytelling. To help get you in a holiday mood, San Francisco Opera’s Dramaturg Emeritus will treat you to a glimpse of some Yuletide operas spanning the gamut from the silly to the sublime. Instead of a Wagnerian “Hojotoho,” it’s time for an operatic “Ho ho ho!”
