Francesca Zambello's American Ring was a San Francisco-Washington National Opera co-production, then when Washington ran out of money, it wasn't. The full cycle ran in the War Memorial in 2011 to great critical and audience acclaim, but it was only 3/4th staged in Washington, Götterdämmerung performed in concert.
But now, WNO is catching up, with three cycles in full production scheduled for April 30-May 22, 2016. WNO is lucky to have Nina Stemme as Brünnhilde, and the rest of the cast is shaping up nicely.
