Privacy Policy

San Francisco Classical Voice takes your privacy seriously. This page outlines how SFCV collects, uses, and safeguards your personal information.

The Information We Collect

This notice applies to all information collected or submitted on the San Francisco Classical Voice Web site. The information we gather falls into two categories: 1) personal information you voluntarily supply when you subscribe to our e-mail newsletter, complete a survey, register to post an online comment, enter a contest, or otherwise provide your e-mail address and personal information; and 2) tracking information collected as you navigate through our site.

As you surf through SFCV's Web site and browse pages, we do not collect personal information, including your e-mail address. We do log your IP address (the Internet address of your computer) to help us understand which parts of our site you visit and how long you spend there. But your IP address does not provide us with any other personal information. Other information automatically provided to us is the type of computer and operating system that you are using, which is relayed by your browser.

As with most Web sites, SFCV may use a standard technology called a cookie to collect information about how you use the site and to help you navigate more easily. A cookie is a small file sent from a Web site to the hard drive of your computer so that the site may track your activities on the site. A cookie does not release any personally identifying information about you (your real name, phone number, and so on), unless you previously provided that information to the site or have set your preferences in your browser to provide that information. Cookies allow us to track the traffic on our site so that we can improve our site and services.

Uses of Information

SFCV will not sell, swap or authorize any third party to use your e-mail address without your permission. We will never share, or sell individual personal information with anyone without your advance permission or unless ordered by a court of law. If you are subscribed to our email list, you will receive our newsletters, surveys, and offers. Occassionally SFCV will email you on behalf of a member organization. You can unsubscribe form any or all of these emails at any time.

We do, however, share information about our audience in aggregate form. For example, we may want to know how long the average reader spends on our site, or which pages or features get the most attention. We may perform statistical analyses of subscribers and their aggregate online behavior for product development purposes and to generally inform advertisers about the nature of our subscribers.

Information submitted to us is only available to employees managing this information for purposes of contacting you or sending you e-mails based on your request for information and to contracted service providers for purposes of providing services relating to our communications with you.

We contract with other companies to provide services on our behalf, including credit-card donation processing, e-mail distribution, list processing, and analytics or promotions management. We provide these companies only with the information they need to perform their services. These service providers are restricted from using this data in any way other than to provide services for SFCV, and they may not share or resell this data. To read these partner companies' privacy policies or learn more: GoogleConstant Contact, Community Initiatives.

Any information you disclose when posting to our comment or discussion area, including your screen name but not your e-mail address, becomes public and may be used by SFCV for all online and offline uses in any and all media.

Online Surveys

If you participate in one of our online surveys, please be assured that any answers you provide are used in the aggregate only to help us create an overall statistical picture of the people who use our site. We do not give individual answers to third parties or provide people with your e-mail address without your permission.

Emailing Articles

One interactive feature of our site enables you to e-mail an article to anyone you like. You must enter an e-mail address to use this system, and your message won't get delivered if you don't enter a real e-mail recipient's address. The information you enter is not stored on our database, however, and therefore we do not use or share any of the information after the e-mail has been sent.

Comments

Comments enable you to discuss SFCV articles with other members of our online community. The first time you post a comment, you must enter a name in order to post a comment on our system, but it does not have to be your actual name. Your screen name and e-mail address is stored in our database, and we use your e-mail address only to check that a previous post has been approved. We do not otherwise use or share that information. If you make your personal information available on a comment or discussion area of our site, please understand that SFCV is not liable for any third-party misuse of that information. If you encounter any person who is improperly collecting or using information about users, please contact [email protected].

We save all posted messages in our comments area. We keep postings for an indeterminate amount of time and they are accessible to all visitors to SFCV. From time to time, we may also highlight some of the best discussions taking place on our site by featuring them on our site. If you wish to remove your posted messages from our site, you may contact [email protected] to have them removed.

Your Privacy Choices

If, at any time, you prefer not to receive e-mail from us, simply follow the unsubscribe options at the bottom of any e-mail you've received in the past. If, at any time, you prefer not to receive traditional mail or telephone solicitations originated by SFCV and its third-party affiliates, you may choose to opt-out by sending an e-mail to [email protected].

To view and edit your personal information, please follow the Update Profile/E-mail Address option at the bottom of any e-mail you've received.

Our Commitment to Data Security

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. You can correct factual errors in your personally identifiable information by sending us a request that credibly shows error. To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access or making corrections.

Our Commitment to Children's Privacy

SFCV does not knowingly collect or store any personal information, even in aggregate, about children under the age of 13.
