Music Director

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Conduct orchestra of 45-50 community musicians in 4 to 5 concerts per season.

Ability to engage with musicians and audience in friendly manner to produce high level concerts.

Passionate about outreach to underserved communities and musicians in South Bay.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum master’s degree in music and/or 5 years orchestral conducting experience. 

Familiarity with standard and contemporary works, as well as works by women, and composers  of color. 

 Must work well with community musicians.  

 Ability to accompany soloists. 

 Must live within 100 miles of San Jose, CA.

 

DUTIES:

Plan and rehearse 4 to 5 concerts each season, 5 rehearsals per concert.

Maintain high musical standards.  

Select and engage soloists. 

Obtain rehearsal and concert venues.

Attend monthly board meetings.

Work with treasurer to propose budgets.

Work with local high school string teachers to include students in side-by-side performances.

Recruit musicians as necessary.

Oversee development of bowings and distribution of music.

Establish relationships with local composers.

Perform outreach to underprivileged communities.

 

COMPENSATION;

Up to $25,000
