Lucas Floyd

Lucas Floyd (b. 1988) is a composer whose music reflects beauty and truth via unmistakable melodies, earnest harmonic landscapes, and structures large and small. His music is deeply felt, drawing on memory and shared human experience. With work described as “fluid, finely crafted, and thought-provoking,” Lucas desires to bring meaningful musical experiences to everyday people, whether in the concert hall, church service, or film score.

His work has been performed recently by Paul Barnes (including a recording on Philip Glass’ Orange Mountain label), Nicholas Phillips, and OneFoundSound. Lucas has also collaborated with violinist Alex Granger, Celli@Berkeley, the International Orange Chorale, the Paul Delgado Singers, the American Harp Society, the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra, and the Guerrilla Composers Guild. His music has been selected for the Hot Air, KLK (L’viv, Ukraine), RealNewMusic, and NewNowNorse festivals.

Lucas has received masterclasses from John Adams and Don Freund, and other instruction from Mason Bates, Luciano Chessa, David Conte, and David Garner. He studied formally with Elinor Armer and Conrad Susa at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (MM) and Robert Denham at the Biola University Conservatory of Music (BM). His works are published by Imagine Music, Abundant Silence, and NewOrnate Press. He grew up in Peru, lives in San Francisco, and performs as an oboist.
