Calliope: East Bay Music & Arts TonaLaura Jazz Duo: Laura Klein, piano and Tony Corman, guitar

A jazz journey through the Great American Songbook, Bossa nova, bebop, and originals

TonaLaura Jazz Duo is the musical marriage of the husband-and-wife team, pianist/composer Laura Klein and guitarist/composer Tony Corman. Laura's unique, lyrical harmonic sense and Tony's extraordinary arranging skills bring a rare richness to the duo format. For this special performance, they'll be playing a selection of tunes drawn from the Great American Songbook, bebop, Brazilian bossa nova, and their own originals. Laura and Tony are also the co-leaders of FivePlay Jazz Quintet, whose 2020 CD, "Summer Dusk: The Studio Sessions", has been receiving critical acclaim, and made several "Best Albums of the Year" lists.

This concert will be performed as a Live-Streamed premiere on Sunday, February 28th, and will continue to be available on-demand for ticket-holders for an additional week after that. Ticket-holders can watch it as many times as they like, whenever and wherever they like!

Laura Klein, pianist, composer, recording artist and bandleader, is delighted to be returning to Calliope with TonaLaura Jazz Duo. Laura has performed and recorded her own compositions with FivePlay Jazz Quintet, Triceratops, vibraphonist Ted Wolff, and others. She has been featured on KCSM's shows "In the Moment", and "Desert Island Jazz", and has appeared with her trio at many venues including SF Jazz, Piedmont Piano, the California Jazz Conservatory, and the Sacramento Jazz Cooperative. Laura has a busy free-lance career performing with numerous Bay Arnique at the California Jazz Conservatory.

Tony Corman is a Massachusetts-born jazz guitarist, arranger, and composer, graduate of Berklee College of Music, and a Bay Area resident since ’84. He co-leads FivePlay Jazz Quintet with his wife, pianist Laura Klein, and is the Lone Arranger for the 17-piece Morchestra jazz orchestra. He also leads the RPM3 Jazz Trio and, these days, is heads-down learning digital recording technology.
