The Outlander in America Ball: 1775 – (Sponsored by PEERS – the Period Events & Entertainments Re-Creation Society)

Join us on Saturday evening, February 1, 2020, at a brilliant 18th Century ball inspired by the popular “Outlander” series. Jamie and Claire Fraser and Mrs. Jocasta Cameron request the honour of your company at a reception and ball to meet Flora McDonald, heroine of the Jacobite Rebellion and rescuer of Bonnie Prince Charlie. (Our venue is the elegant, Neo-Colonial Alameda Elks Lodge at 2255 Santa Clara Avenue in Alameda – an Edwardian mansion whose faux-Baroque décor is a great match for this event!).

Our excellent Sassenach band, Bangers & Mash, will play our favorite country dances from Scotland, England, and America as well as a number of romantic Scottish waltzes suitable for that new dance we've just learnt from the Germans, the Valse. Doors open at 6:30pm, there will be a pre-ball dance class in 18th Century Scottish Dance at 7pm, and formal dancing to live music runs from 8pm to midnight. No partners required and all country and set dances will be taught and called.

18th Century costume, historical or traditional Scottish costume, “Outlander”-inspired costume, “Hamilton”-inspired costume, or modern evening dress is admired but not required. For costume inspiration, you may want to watch the “Outlander” miniseries, especially the fourth season (the American adventures). The fifth season is scheduled to premiere on February 16.

There will be a no host bar, light refreshments (your potluck contributions will be greatly appreciated), period dance demonstrations, and an intermission sing-a-long concert of stirring and romantic Scottish songs.

General Tickets are $25 in advance (by January 25); $30 at the door. For ticket information, see http://www.peersdance.org/outlander.html
