Join us for a conversation between world class conductor and Bay Area native Kent Nagano and San Francisco Chronicle Classical Music Critic Joshua Kosman. Mr. Nagano’s first book, Classical Music: Expect the Unexpected, was published in February of 2019 by McGill-Queen's University Press.

Mr. Nagano is currently Music Director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and General Music Director of the Staatsoper Hamburg. In 2006, he was appointed Honorary Conductor of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. As guest conductor, Mr. Nagano has worked with some of the world’s finest orchestras, including the New York and Vienna Philharmonics, the London Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He was Music Director of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra from 1978-2008.

Mr. Kosman has covered classical music for the San Francisco Chronicle since 1988, reviewing and reporting on the wealth of orchestral, operatic, chamber and contemporary music throughout the Bay Area.

A book sale and signing follows the program.
