California Concerto Weekend is sponsored by Mission College Community Education, and was co-founded in 2010 by Joseph Ordaz and Dr Joan Karr. Joseph Ordaz serves as the artistic director and conductor, with Michael Giel as assistant conductor. Igor Resnianski is a permanent piano faculty member, and joined by a guest piano faculty member each year.
California Concerto Weekend is a workshop program of Mission College Community Education. It offers amateur pianists, 25 years of age or older who do not have a music performance degree, the opportunity to perform piano concerto works with a symphony orchestra under the guidance of world renowned pianists and conductors. Up to twelve pianists are selected to participate as performers each year. These performers will receive masterclasses, lessons, panel discussions, and orchestra rehearsals, culminating in a final gala performance.
