Summer Quintet Concert

Presented by Albany Consort

These are difficult times for planning ahead. So for a while it will be one concert at a time, keeping a watchful eye on circumstances. And this is what we have planned for next month.

It’s been a while since we worked with British countertenor Charles Humphries. Some may remember his festival appearances with us in past years. For our upcoming program, Charles joins the now familiar core quartet of JonathanMarionLaura and Roy with selections that allow all of us to show off a bit and to blend harmoniously. Bookending the concert, we’ll tax the intellect with a Bach cantata and the emotions with a Handel opera scene; on the way, we include brave 17th century experimenters BuxtehudePurcell and Caldara. Join us for an hour of delightful music with a few shocks, reminders of an age when things were not as loud as they are now, and a chance to enjoy music that is as fresh and dramatic as it was in the day.

The program …

Bach Cantata 200; Buxtehude Mit Fried und Freud; Purcell Here the deities approve; Caldara Soffri mio caro Alcino; Telemann Trio sonata; Handel Empio, dirò, tu sei
