Heinrich Schütz: Christmas Story and Holiday Favorites

Presented by California Bach Society

Artistic director Paul Flight leads the California Bach Society in a festive concert of holiday favorites from around the world.  The program will showcase the jubilant, seldom heard Christmas Story (Weinachtshistorie) by Heinrich Schütz.  Written for six-part choir, soloists, and Baroque ensemble, this masterpiece recounts the nativity in a series of delightful tableaux. The 30-voice chorus is joined by a Baroque ensemble of strings and brass, with soloists Caroline Jou Armitage, soprano, Sepp Hammer, baritone, and Paul Flight as the Narrator.  To round out the program, the choir will present a retrospective of favorites from its popular “Christmas Around the World” concerts, with songs and carols from many lands and many centuries.
