Third Thursdays - a virtual house concert with James Baik, cello

Presented by California Music Center

THIRD THURSDAYS are a ticketed series of brand-new, streamed concerts featuring recent Klein Competition prizewinners with live post-show conversation with the artists. While we can't present our beloved house concerts in-person this season, we can bring them to homes around the world. Cocktails optional! All streams at 5PM Pacific (8PM Eastern). Cellist James Baik, 19, is a Bachelor of Music candidate at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where he studies with Clive Greensmith. James began playing the cello at the age of eight in Houston, TX. In 2017-18 school year, he began private studies with Hans Jorgen Jensen. James would go on to win the 2018 DePaul Concerto Competition and reach the finals at the 2018 Johansen International Competition in Washington D.C. In 2018, James was named a YoungArts finalist and participated at YoungArts Week in Miami, Florida. He was also awarded the grand prize at the Walgreens National Competition, resulting in a solo performance at Northwestern University. James was a finalist in the 2019 Stulberg International String Competition and won the first prize at the 2019 Irving M. Klein International String Competition. Baik won the 2020 Colburn Concerto Competition and will subsequently play with the Colburn Orchestra in the 2020/2021 season. James has attended the Meadowmount School of Music, the Aspen Music Festival, where he was in the Finckel Wu Han Chamber Music Program, and was invited as a guest performer for the 2020 Music of the Vineyards Festival in Napa Valley.
