  • 1–2:30pm Concert: featuring CMC Children’s Chorus/Intergenerational Choir, New Voices Bay Area TIGQ Chorus, Coro de Cámara, and more.

Vocal Workshops

Explore diverse facets of the voice, from anatomy to harmony to style, led by CMC voice faculty. Space in some workshops is limited, advanced registration is recommended.

3–3:30pm: From Toes to Nose: The Anatomy of the Voice with Ellen Shea. Enjoy a quick overview of the vocal aparatus. Learn the musculature of breathing, the pharynx and the resonators, and how they all work together. (CMC Concert Hall)

3–4pm: Broadway, Pop, and Jazz Choral Harmonies with Ellen Robinson. Experience the thrill of harmonizing in different musical styles: Broadway, Pop, and Jazz. We’ll sing in three-part harmony in each style using written choral arrangements. Enjoy a show-stopping dramatic Broadway tune, an infectious rhythmic Pop song, and a playfully syncopated Jazz number. This will be fun! (CMC Recital Hall)

3:30–5pm: Feel Your Voice – A Somatic Experience with Clare Hedin and Nicole Lumetta. This workshop focuses on you! It will support you—through fun and focused exercises—to get in touch with how your voice feels and resonates in your body, and its posture. It will also show how resonance and awareness give you creative choices and connect you to yourself and others. We will use movement, singing, and sound meditation. Technically, we will explore the pharyngeal space/facial musicals, the vagus nerve, and vocal registration to support your ability to improvise, sing, and discover/express your sound authentically. (CMC Concert Hall)

4–5pm: What is this Thing Called Jazz? A Vocal Ensemble with Clif Payne. Students will learn the fundamental elements of jazz (rhythm, improvisation, harmony) and sing the genres’ popular repertoire from classic jazz standards to contemporary jazz stylings. Special attention will be given to the legends of jazz singers and the songs they made famous. This class will have piano accompaniment. (CMC Room 12)

Voice Department Recital

5:30-7pm : A Celebration of Renewal. A collaborative concert capturing the spirit of spring, rebirth, growth, and the beauty of nature. Featuring performances by CMC students of private studios, group classes, choirs, and CMC Voice Faculty in a wide variety of musical styles, from solos to ensembles. (CMC Concert Hall)
