Holiday Rhapsodies & Reveries

Presented by Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra

The Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra heartily invites first-time listeners and connoisseurs alike to enjoy a festive musical experience on December 3 and 4. Entitled “Holiday Rhapsodies and Reveries,” the program opens with Fantasia on Greensleeves, by Vaughan Williams, a tune most will recognize as a holiday carol. Pianist Paul Schrage will solo in Gershwin’s exuberant Rhapsody in Blue, and CCCO’s own Lisa Canter will solo in Vivaldi’s Bassoon Concerto in E Minor. The program also includes Reverie by Debussy and Hungarian Rhapsody in D minor by Liszt. On December 3 only, Las Lomas High School students will join the CCCO to perform two additional pieces: Adoration by Florence Price (the first female African-American symphonic composer) and the beloved Sleeping Beauty Waltz by Tchaikovsky. Under the masterful direction of Geoffrey Gallegos, the CCCO will perform “Holiday Rhapsodies and Reveries” on Saturday, December 3 at 4 pm at the Las Lomas High School Theater in Walnut Creek and Sunday, December 4 at 4 pm at the newly-remodeled St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Orinda. Tickets are available at ContraCostaChamberOrchestra.org or at the door. Adult, $20; Senior, $15; Student, $7.
