The Diablo Symphony’s digital premiere this Thursday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. celebrates music from Mexico and Brazil - intense, passionate, lyrical, rhythmic, and humorous! Featuring the Symphony’s 2016 collaboration with El Mariachi Alegre, Thursday’s program is highlighted by the world premiere of “Canta y No Llores”, a medley of Mariachi songs arranged by Esteban Zapian, El Mariachi Alegre’s founder and director. The lively program also features orchestral works by Mexican composer Arturo Marquez and Brazilian composer Hector Villa-Lobos. The Symphony’s percussion section also performs Latin-inspired works, including music utilizing elements from Brazilian folklore by percussionist and composer Ney Gabriel Rosauro, a native of Rio de Janeiro. Introducing the program, Music Director Matilda Hofman will catch up with El Mariachi Alegre founder Esteban "eSteve" Zapiain, DSO percussion principal and personnel manager Robert Hamaker and former DSO assistant conductor John Masko.
