Dover Quartet Chamber Music Concert

Presented by Friends of Chamber Music of Stockton

Dover Quartet

Performance   February 5, 2023

Named one of the greatest string quartets of the last 100 years by BBC Music Magazine, the GRAMMY® nominated Dover Quartet has followed a “practically meteoric” (Strings) trajectory to become one of the most in-demand chamber ensembles in the world. The group’s awards include a stunning sweep of all prizes at the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition, grand and first prizes at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, and prizes at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition. Its prestigious honors include the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award, and Lincoln Center’s Hunt Family Award.

“…this was string quartet nirvana.” wrote the Santa Fe New Mexican. The excitement of listening to the Dover Quartet is expressed clearly in the Chicago Tribune: "the Dover Quartet players have it in them to become the next Guarneri String Quartet — they're that good. Expert musicianship, razor-sharp ensemble, deep musical feeling and a palpable commitment to communication made their performances satisfying on many levels."

Ira Lehn, a member of the Stockton Friends of Chamber Music Board and former Dean of the Pacific Conservatory of Music has heard the Dover Quartet several times and was insistent that we have them back. They were last in Stockton in 2013, following their sweep of all prizes at the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition.

The artists (Joel Link and Bryan Lee, Violin, Hezekiah Leung, Viola, and Camden Shaw, Cello) are the Penelope P. Watkins Ensemble in Residence at Curtis. Their faculty residency integrates teaching and mentorship, a robust international performance career, and a cutting-edge digital presence.

The Dover Quartet will provide an unbelievably rich and rewarding chamber music concert presented by Stockton’s Friends of Chamber Music. Come enjoy the concert.

Tickets are $25 and are available in the lobby of Faye Spanos Concert Hall at UOP starting at 2:00 pm, 30 minutes before the concert. Students of any age are admitted free.

The audience is invited to participate in a question and answer program with the artists in the concert hall following the concert.

Friends of Chamber Music concerts are presented in cooperation with Pacific and its Conservatory of Music. For a brochure or more information about the FOCM annual series, please call 209-956-2868 or visit www.chambermusicfriends.org.
