Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO), led by Music Director Jaime Martín, spotlights acclaimed violinist Christian Tetzlaff, hailed for his “combustible” performances and “striking bravura” (Chicago Classical Review) on Brahms’ towering Violin Concerto in D major on Saturday, December 9, 8 pm, at Glendale’s Alex Theatre, and Sunday, December 10, 2023, 7 pm, at UCLA’s Royce Hall. The program also includes the overture from Rossini’s rollicking comic opera The Italian Girl in Algiers as well as one of Mozart’s final symphonic masterpieces, Symphony No. 39 in E-flat major, a mythic work that has inspired musicians and composers for generations.

Tetzlaff is among the most exciting musicians on the classical music scene today. With an extensive repertoire and equally at home in Classical, Romantic and contemporary repertoire, he sets new standards with his musical interpretations and is renowned for his innovative chamber music projects and performances of Bach solo repertoire. Tetzlaff follows the musical manuscript as closely as possible, foregoing standard performance tradition and without indulging in usual technical short-cuts on the instrument, which often allows a renewed clarity and richness to develop in works that are already well-known to audiences. He is regularly invited as Artist in Residence to present his musical views over a longer period, including residencies with the Berliner Philharmoniker, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and Dresdner Philharmoniker. He was given this honor at London’s Wigmore Hall in the 2021/22 season and served as “Portrait Artist” of London Symphony Orchestra in the 2022/23 season.
