Pipe organist Michael Simpson guest artist at free "Second Sunday" concert Nov. 13

Pipe-organist Michael Simpson of Richmond, Virginia, plays a free concert on Sunday, Nov. 13, in Healdsburg. César Franck's monumental "Choral in A Minor" is the featured composition, with other works to include those of J.S. Bach, Dietrich Bextehude, Felix Mendelssohn and Georg Böhm. Simpson's musical career has spanned 50 years. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Richmond, earning a bachelor's degree in organ performance. He was assistant director and accompanist for the Richmond Symphony Chorus, organist for the symphony, and director of the Richmond Renaissance Singers. The concert begins at 5 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 209 Matheson St., Healdsburg. Admission is free; donations to the church's outreach programs will be accepted. The free concert series continues on Dec. 11, when St. Paul's Director of Music Paul Blanchard will play a festival of holiday lessons and carols. The concerts will switch to the third Sunday of the month, after the first of the year.
