In the Beginning

Presented by Vox Humana SF

In the Beginning is the inaugural program of San Francisco's professional choir presenting works by Brahms, Copland, Elgar, Esmail, Howells, Mäntyjärvi, Martinaitis, and Mendelssohn. The concert features mezzo-soprano Catherine Cook in Aaron Copland's "In the Beginning," and Reena Esmail's "Even after all this time..." with clarinetist Kevin Tang.

Vox Humana SF is a dynamic and avant-garde twenty-four-voice professional choir that celebrates the beauty and power of the human voice within the context of San Francisco’s rich cultural landscape. Conducted by founding artistic director Don Scott Carpeneter, we specialize in a wide range of choral music—spanning the Renaissance to Modern—and are dedicated to commissioning new works that showcase the group’s commitment to fostering innovation and creativity.
