The San Francisco Classical Voice Audience Choice Awards are coming. As long-time SFCV fans will note, our annual readers’ poll has a change of name this year. Previously dubbed “Best of the Bay,” we’ve updated the moniker to emphasize the fact that all nominations and voting are carried out by our readers.
Nominations open July 27, with separate polls for Bay Area and Los Angeles audiences.
The nomination poll opens next week, and we’ll provide the link at www.sfcv.org on Monday, July 27, and in our July 28 newsletters. You will have 10 days to nominate your favorite artists, ensembles, performances, venues, and more from the curtailed 2019–2020 concert season — between August 1, 2019, and March 15, 2020, when virtually all live performances in California came to an end.
We created two new categories this year in response to the dramatic changes in music presentation imposed by the pandemic: Best Streaming Performance Recorded During the Pandemic and Best New Composition Created and Recorded During the Pandemic.
Think about the most moving musical experiences you had last season, comb through your programs, discuss it with your friends, scroll through last year’s SFCV coverage, and get ready to participate. Last year we had over 300 responses to the initial nomination poll. Let’s beat that this year. The most nominated performances and groups will go through to the voting round.
Once we have collated all of your nominations, you’ll have a chance to vote on the top nominees. At the end of August, we’ll publish an article for each region listing the winners in each category.
