Community Music Center Children's Chorus

Young singers: find your voice and learn to blend it into a group by singing in CMC’s Children’s Chorus! You will develop basic ear training, sight singing and performance skills in an environment that emphasizes cooperation, teamwork and fun. In addition to presenting three theme concerts each year, the Children’s Chorus performs in Spanish at CMC’s “Las Posadas” celebration each December.

Community Music Center Chamber Music Ensembles

Whether you are an advanced beginner or an accomplished amateur musician, CMC’s chamber music program offers an opportunity to develop your musicianship and technique as well as the chance to play with others. Groups are composed of two to five students of compatible levels. Advanced beginners and intermediate students will focus on developing basic ensemble skills, intonation, tone quality, and rhythmic accuracy. Advanced students will study important aspects of ensemble playing, including interpretation and performance techniques.

Community Music Center Beginning Adult Piano

Aspiring pianists, this comprehensive and gradually paced course is a great introduction to the instrument. Absolute beginners are welcome as well as those who have some piano experience but are in need of a refresher course. Emphasis is on technique, reading, rhythm, theory and ear-training. Each student is provided with a keyboard and headphones to use in this hands-on class. Although students can register at any time, this class will be most beneficial for those who start in the fall and continue through the spring quarter.

Community Music Center Piano for Children

This is a great introduction to music fundamentals on the keyboard in preparation for private lessons on piano or any other instrument. Basic musical concepts such as note reading, rhythm, pitch, and piano technique will be taught through fun and imaginative activities. Children will also learn to play simple songs on the piano. Since students will be expected to practice at home, they must have access to a keyboard or piano.

Cantabile Youth Singers Ensemble & Vocalise Chorus

Ensemble is for older students, mainly ages 12-15 wishing to further their musical experiences by learning a fantastic variety of advanced literature. Ensemble is Cantabile’s elite touring group, representing the San Francisco Bay Area by performing at choral festivals, workshops and competitions around the world. In Ensemble, students receive a half hour of theory instruction per week in addition to the regular rehearsal. Vocalise is Cantabile’s most advanced group and is for youth aged 14-18.

Cantabile Youth Singers Preparatory 1 & 2 Chorus

Cantabile Youth Singers, since 2004 under the artistic leadership of world-renowned conductor Elena Sharkova, offers children comprehensive choral music education and performance opportunities of the highest caliber, thereby engaging their hearts and minds, encouraging a lifetime appreciation of the arts, the diversity of human kind, cultures, and languages. Preparatory Choir teaches young singers the fundamentals of singing in a group, including beginning note reading, vocal production, and performance. No previous experience is needed.
