The Amethyst Quartet is nationally renowned and admired for performances characterized by beauty of sound, clarity of melodic line, and unity of purpose. Celebrated for its performances of works by composers ranging from Bach and Handel, to contemporary composers such as Ligeti, Maslanka, and Xenakis, Amethyst has become recognized as one of the premiere American saxophone quartets.

Amethyst Quartet stands alone in the history of saxophone quartets in the US with an unparalleled list of achievements. During their 2008 season, the founding members of the Amethyst Quartet swept the nations most prestigious chamber music competitions, winning first prizes at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the Coleman Chamber Music Competition, and the Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition (MTNA). Amethyst also received Honorable Mention (2nd prize) at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition during their inaugural 2006-2007 season.
