The San Francisco Symphony was in Prague on the hundredth anniversary of Gustav Mahler's death. Back then, Prague was the second city in the Austrian Empire, a place where musical culture flourished. Mozart had loved it a century earlier, and Mahler spent two years at its opera house as musical director (1885-87).
