You may not know Paul Bowles' music. He is much more famous as the author of the novel The Sheltering Sky and a series of pathbreaking short stories. But he studied music with Aaron Copland, and his compositions are finely crafted and melodic. He was also a pioneer ethnomusicologist, collecting many field recordings in North Africa, where he lived most of his life. Leave it to the enterprising Nicole Paiement and the San Francisco Conservatory's ongoing BluePrint series to celebrate Bowles' musical legacy on the 100th anniversary of his birth. With a preconcert film scheduled as well, it's an event that no musical adventurer will want to miss.
