Brahms Requiem at OEBS

Sure, Oakland-East Bay Symphony is doing the Brahms Requiem on Friday and, yes, it is one of the most moving and beautiful works in the classical repertory.

The OEBS will do right by it (despite the strident acoustics of the Paramount Theatre) with soloists Brian Leerhuber (of San Francisco Opera) and Carrie Hennessy.

But that's obviously not the whole story: this being OEBS, we'll have some new music by Armenian composer Avetis Berberyan, which casts the Requiem's message of solace in a wholly modern light.
