COME SING WITH VOCI !

If you’re an experienced amateur singer looking for unusual repertoire, high musical standards, a supportive and creative atmosphere, and the opportunity to learn, grow, and shine as a musician… then join the women of Voci this fall!

Voci Women’s Vocal Ensemble is currently seeking experienced choral singers in all treble voice parts. Celebrating 23 years of musical excellence, we are considered one of the finest amateur singing groups in the Bay Area. A 24-voice, auditioned ensemble, we perform classical music from a wide variety of historical periods, from medieval to twenty-first century. Voci champions music by and for women.

Rehearsals take place in Orinda, Wednesdays, 7:30–10:00 PM. Fall rehearsals start August 20. Fall concert dates are November 16 and 22, in Berkeley and Lafayette. A few additional retreats and/or rehearsals will be scheduled during the season.

Our ambitious fall season explores the themes of birth and new beginnings. The program includes excerpts from Gustav Holst’s Choral Hymns from the Rig Veda as well as works by Claude Debussy, Hector Villa Lobos, Eve Beglarian, Arvo Pärt, Karen Rehnqvist, Ysaye Barnwell, Pekka Kostianinen, Annea Lockwood, and others.

For more information or to schedule an audition, please contact artistic director Anne Hege at [email protected]. The audition consists of a few exercises in ear-training and sight-singing and performing a short prepared solo piece a cappella.

Voci’s Artistic Director, Anne Hege, who recently received her Ph.D. in musical composition from Princeton University, also works as a vocalist, composer, improviser, and electronic musician, performing original works in her performance duo New Prosthetics, the laptop ensemble Sideband, and for the Carrie Ahern Dance Company.
