Voices of Silicon Valley auditions

What: Auditions for the Fall 2019 season. We are looking for both professional and qualified volunteer singers with strong musicianship skills. We ask that singers bring an aria or a song of their choice, and will be asked to do simple sight-reading

When: August 28, Saturday from 4:30 pm to 6:30

Where: Westminster Presbyterian Church, downtown San Jose

Contact: [email protected] to schedule audition time

Rehearsal schedule: VOSV meets 3 times every month, 2 Saturday afternoons and 1 Monday night. We are looking for experienced and advanced singers who are interested in a wide range of repertoire and can learn music on their own, so our rehearsal schedule can be much lighter than other choral/vocal groups in the area.

Repertoire: This Fall Voices of Silicon Valley will work on a program honoring the lives of 36 artists and musicians who died in the Ghost Ship fire in Oakland in 2016, as well as recent victims of mass shootings. We will perform some of the most moving choral works by Eric Whitacre (such as Lux Aurumque, see the link below), Scot Hanna-Weir (composer/choral director at Santa Clara University), and selections from a beloved Requiem by Gabriel Faure.

About Voices of Silicon Valley: founded 2014, over the past 5 years VOSV has made a significant progress in expanding the range of possibilities for a choral performance, presenting interactive works for choir and audience/cell phones, rarely performed avent-garde masterpieces and traditional works combined with recent technology. In recent years, Voices have been named "one of the 8 music groups changing Bay Area" by KDFC and "an adventurous new ensemble" by Joshua Kosman (San Francisco Chronicle).
