New Notes - Orchestral Instrumental Ensemble for kids and adults

This ensemble plays classical and current repertoire. Unlike most classical training, students are guided through improvisation sections in each performance piece. All levels and ages are welcome, and parts are customized for each instrumentalist. This session will focus on The Entertainer by Scott Joplin, The Deserted Garden by Florence Price and a sing-along-play-along of Iz's version of Over the Rainbow to perform on May 20th.

Private Lessons

The Alameda String Academy is a music school conveniently located in the heart of Alameda offering high quality instruction in violin, viola, cello and guitar, with a particular emphasis on chamber music.

Our goal is to provide more than “just lessons.”  Our talented faculty work hard to create a real community of musicians where students enjoy their music, play together in groups, and perform for each other in a kind, supportive and challenging environment.

Prelude Chorus

Prelude Chorus is YWCP’s beginning-level chorus, welcoming girls with no previous musical training. Through a Kodály-based music education curriculum, choristers will learn basic vocal techniques, sight-reading, and performance skills, and sing unison and two-part repertoire in many languages. Prelude Chorus is led by Kodály specialist Samantha Maas-Baldwin, and presents 2-4 public performances annually.

Allegro Chorus

Allegro Chorus is the intermediate division of YWCP, and is a place to improve vocal skills and musicianship and meet other girls who love to sing. It has between 25-40 young women in grades 5 through 10 from across the Bay Area. Members of this ensemble receive vocal and musical training, including music theory, ear training, sight-reading, vocal technique, and performance skills. This chorus sings a wide variety of music styles in up to 3-4 parts, and performs at least 4 times per year. Allegro Chorus made its debut in fall 2013 and is led by Kodály music educator Danelle Johnson.

Young Women's Chorus

The Young Women’s Chorus of San Francisco is YWCP’s premiere performing ensemble and is comprised of singers who exhibit excellent vocal technique and musicianship skills. YWC sings challenging choral music for women’s voices, emphasizing classical compositions from all eras, and including world music, jazz and Broadway selections. All members of YWC take voice lessons from a professional voice teacher in small classes every other week. Led by Artistic Director Dr.

Family Music

This is a mixed-age music class for infants to 3 year olds and parents/caregivers – a musical bonding experience and an introduction to singing, rhythmic activities, movement and musical play. Each child participates at his or her own level, and the adults sing, move and play along with the children. Rhythmic rhymes and songs from many folk traditions for one-on one finger plays with your child, or group singing and dancing in a circle. More than one adult can attend with a registered child.

SFArts Ed Players

SFArtsED Players is a dynamic musical troupe founded in 2001 — public school 9-15 year olds meet after class and Saturdays — with professional theater Artists. Training in song, dance and acting through original/classic Broadway musicals is their focus.

These talented kids exhibit enormous discipline and enthusiasm, devoting at least 9 hours a week (more when show dates near) to classes and rehearsals. It pays off in fully staged performances that are deeply investigated and thoroughly polished: The Pajama Game, Fiorello! and Carousel since 2009 alone!
