SFCV Presents: The Virtual Greenroom With John Adams & Elkhanah Pulitzer

On Sept. 14, 2022, John Adams and Elkhanah Pulitzer joined music journalist Steven Winn to talk about Adams’s new opera, Antony and Cleopatra. The conversation touched on how the piece’s big themes speak to contemporary times, including concepts of celebrity and public versus private life, the decision to frame the opera as a critical inquiry into the way that Egypt and Cleopatra have been represented and imagined by Western writers over the centuries, and the daring movie-influenced 1930s design of the show.
