Youth Orchestras of the Diablo Valley

A suite of successively more advanced orchestral experiences now culminates with the teen level Diablo Regional Youth Orchestra They will perform challenging music and accompany renown guest artists. By invitation only, Orchestra Leadership Ensembles of select advanced DRYO members will participate in a minimum of one rehearsal a month and assist with sectionals and performances.

Family Music

This is a mixed-age music class for infants to 3 year olds and parents/caregivers – a musical bonding experience and an introduction to singing, rhythmic activities, movement and musical play. Each child participates at his or her own level, and the adults sing, move and play along with the children. Rhythmic rhymes and songs from many folk traditions for one-on one finger plays with your child, or group singing and dancing in a circle. More than one adult can attend with a registered child.

San Domenico Music Conservatory

The Music Conservatory offers a wide array of options for adults and children who are not enrolled at San Domenico School through our Community School. Whether a student is just beginning an instrument, or is at an advanced level, faculty work to place the student in lessons and ensembles that serve the student's musical needs. Participants in the Music Conservatory’s programs perform in recitals throughout the school year.

Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse

Babies to 4-year-olds explore, along with their favorite adult, the sounds and imagination of the Spanish language. Jorge Liceaga leads you on a magical musical journey with his voice, his imagination and many musical instruments!

Guitarist Jorge Liceaga is a founder of Cascada de Flores, a music ensemble dedicated to the exploration, preservation and dissemination of Mexican and Caribbean music and dance. With his partner Arwen Lawrence he is also involved in numerous creative collaborations, recording projects, community outreach activities and in-school programs and workshops.

Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse

Kids create their own musical theater! The stage doors open wide in this two-week camp where kids explore the world of theater by writing, designing, and starring in an original production based on traditional American folk songs. The camp culminates in a final gala performance on stage at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in downtown Berkeley.

The Morning Camp: Animals! session, for ages 5-7, is based on animal songs. Camp runs two weeks, Monday-Friday from 9:00 am-noon.

Musically Minded Academy

In this ensemble, students will explore the guitar in a group setting, learning both rhythm accompaniment techniques and music theory. Further development and refinement of basic skills. Introduction to beginning and more intermediate and advanced techniques. Students enrolling in the Beginning class do not any experience, but it is helpful. Student provides his or her own guitar. Students enrolling in the intermediate level class must have prior experience on guitar and understand basic chords/scales.

SFArts Ed Broadway Bound

Full-day performing artists participate in our Broadway Bound program, which challenges young people with strong interest in theater. Classes will train the “triple threat” performer in singing, dancing and acting.

Each Broadway Bound session culminates with showcase performances on the last day. Workshops and classes are conducted by a faculty of mid-career theater Artists. Families and friends are always amazed at the number of songs, theatrical scenes and dances performed at the end of these exciting two-week sessions.
