Our classroom is the majestic redwood forest with unique nature adventures and other interpretive and recreational out-door activities woven into the daily program.
Jam Camp’s schedule is designed with two one-hour classes in the morning and two one-hour classes in the afternoon interspersed with fun outdoor activities such as swimming (there is a beautiful pool at Redwood Glen!), volleyball, basketball, arts and crafts, nature walks, ping-pong, and tetherball. Each evening includes an array of fun camp activities that culminate in Open Mic on the main stage with a bonfire and s’mores. The Jam Camp week culminates in a final showcase that friends and family are invited to attend.
Classes include over twenty-five noncompetitive workshops offered daily and are taught by professional artists who are chosen because of their experience, talent and commitment to education. Young aspiring musicians and dancers from our counselor program also assist in classes. The curriculum offers instrumental ensembles taught by ear, various styles of vocals and dance, steeldrum, percussion, beat box, turntables, songwriting, spoken word, beat laboratories, theory, and more. The Jam Camp West curriculum is designed to attract our youth with contemporary sounds, beats and rhythms they can identify with, while also maintaining respect for cultural jazz traditions and it’s many influences.
A wide range of planned evening activities – from student open mics, faculty showcases to exciting campfire programs with s’mores, make nights under the stars memorable and fun.
In this magnificent setting, we hope to provide a truly inspirational experience while building self-reliance, teamwork, a sense of social responsibility, and community with a potentially life-changing opportunity to reconnect with the natural world. Most importantly, we hope to share a joyful six days with our growing Jam Camp West family.
