Basics, Blues and Beyond I (11am-1pm)
Geared towards students with at least 1 year of musical experience. This class is rooted in the basics of jazz and blues with additional exploration of other genres. This is an excellent experience for those new to small ensemble playing.
Our classroom is the majestic redwood forest with unique nature adventures and other interpretive and recreational out-door activities woven into the daily program.

Little Opera is a comprehensive nine-month after-school program that challenges the assumption that opera is not for everyone. We bring together elementary aged students in grades 1-6 and professional Bay Area artists to create, rehearse, and perform an original opera.
A week of string music fun, developing good string techniques while enjoying daily workshops in playing styles (jazz, baroque, etc), a chance to compose a piece, and a great study unit on Mozart! Camp ends with a short performance on Friday, August 17.
The San Jose Chamber Orchestra is a professional string orchestra focused on presenting high-quality chamber orchestra repertoire. SJCO continues to champion a variety of living composers alongside more familiar classical works. Teacher Barbara Day Turner is the founder and Musical Director at SJCO.
YMP is a music training program for talented 5th through 12th grade students who want to excel in music but who are not able to afford private lessons or specialized training. Participants, selected on the basis of musical potential and financial need, are provided with free musical instruction during the summer and school year. A scholarship program limited to 80 - 95 exceptionally gifted youngsters from low-income families, YMP provides preparatory training for students who plan to go on to college and professional careers.
String and woodwind players at intermediate and advanced levels are encouraged to sign up for a small chamber ensemble, and are placed in a trio, quartet, or quintet that has a weekly coaching session and rehearsal.
The Full Program runs for a full year (Aug 24-Aug 22). Enrollment includes 1 lesson every week of either 30, 45, 60, or 90 minutes in duration (that’s 46 lessons in a year!) and 10 Academy events. These events are listed below:
