Renée Fleming Plans Her Swan Song From Staged Opera

Superstar soprano Renée Fleming has announced her retirement from staged opera, according to an April 5, 2017, story by Charles McGrath in The New York Times. Fleming will wrap her career in formal staged opera with a final performance as Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier at the Metropolitan Opera on May 13. The decision to bow out of formally staged opera productions is one the singer has been planning for years, but it does not signal the end of her singing career. She intends to perform more concerts, record more albums, and engage in creative consulting.
